Your story is what you have, what you will always have. It is something to own.

At fifty-four, I am still in progress, and I hope that I always will be - Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama, First Lady of the United States, quickly became one of the most iconic women of the White House.

Becoming is about Michelle Robinson. A girl that could be any one of us, who grew up and knew that education would be the only way she could reach the next rung on the ladder. she quite literally worked her ass off to be the best at everything, because she had to. Failure wasn't an option. Her story is something that all of us can connect with in one way or another. I wish there was someone like her out there when I was growing up.

Do we settle for the world as it is, or do we work for the world as it should be?
I have been an admirer of Michelle Obama since she first became the First Lady and this book further extended my wonder of her. I was unaware of much of her professional history prior to the White House and was much impressed by it. After high school, Michelle went to Princeton, then Harvard Law and eventually became a corporate lawyer. But as much as a corporate law was a good career, it was not a fulfilling one. Michelle wanted to do more and she made a daring choice by leaving a well-payed job to join community outreach and non-profit organizations. This move was in part motivated by meeting a guy with a distinct name: Barack Obama. The two had similar ambitions and well, the rest is history. I absolutely love the prose, its masterfully written. I expected to like this book but I did not expect was the profound impact it has on me. I am genuinely floored by this woman and her story.

While I am not a big fan of politics and politician, the Obamas stole my heart when they were in power and I still look on deeply fascinated by the life they live. In Becoming Michelle Obama gave us an inside look at exactly what the race for presidency was like, what living under a spotlight like the First Lady affected her and her children and how she was able to use her platform.

Overall: I enjoyed this memoir. It is one of my fastest, impressing, touching readings.

I loved Michelle Obama’s two quotes that really work as my life mottos which are:

“Choose people who lift you up” and “Find people who will make you better”

Thankfully I did. And I loved this book. I’d better read more memoirs.

P.S: This book has very little politics. It is, however, absolutely bursting with hope and humor and heart. My highest possible recommendation, especially if you hate the political world and those who populate it.
